In just 10 km away from the seaside you will enjoy beautiful landscapes of Vrana Lake Nature Park – a unique natural area. Discover with our guide historical traces of medieval time, Roman and Turkish Empire by visiting Templar castle ruins, remains of Romans estates and medieval fortresses. Finish the historical tour with an autochthonous experience of traditional meal with some great Dalmatian wine.

About excursion

We will pass through Vrana Lake Nature Park, the largest lake in Croatia. Vrana Lake is a home to exceptional number of bird species, wild ducks and river fish species – making the park a paradise for bird observers and fishermen. Our first stop is a small town Vrana, home of a monumental stone residency from the 17th century – Maškovića Han. The Han – anticipated as caravanserai (roadside inn) – is very unique and represents the most western building of Islamic architecture on the territory of the former Turkish Empire. We will have an expert led tour of the han.

The trip goes then to Kaštel Benkovac – a small medieval fortification situated on top of a hill above the town of Benkovac. We will visit the museum with some interesting exhibits that lead to Leonardo da Vinci. The final feature of the tour is the gastronomical experience at agritourism estate Ražnjevićeva dvori, located in a Dalmatian village Polača. You will enjoy traditional culinary delights of the region – grape brandy with dried figs, followed by bread, prosciutto and cheese. Not forget to mention everything is home-made, accompanied by many stories of the owners who will warmly welcome you throughout the visit.
